He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Ries and Luella Ries (Borcherding); his stepmother Pauline Ries (Scherer); his wife Ruth Ries (Chaplin); his granddaughter Kaylee Ries; and his brothers, John "Jack" Ries and Robert W. Ries.
He is survived by: his children, David "DW" Ries (Kim), Jim Ries (Melanie), Margaret "Peg" Ries and Charles "Chuck" Ries (Mary); his grandchildren, Andrew Ries (Kierstyn), Jacob Ries (Caitlin), Danielle Denning (Nathanial), Brianna Ireland (Evan), Madison Oden (Carsen), MecKenzie Upton (Tyler), Sam Heckman, Elizabeth Ries, Abigail Ries and Rylan Ries; his great grandchildren, Linken Ries, Jackson Ries, Adelae, Maylee, Allister, Leland Denning, Jameson, Coleson Ireland and Wesley Upton; and his brother Paul Ries. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or the Historical Santa Claus Campground.
