Ramona Arlene (Krueger) Cunningham Obituary
Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Ramona Arlene (Krueger) Cunningham was born in Warrensburg, Illinois on December 17, 1938. God called her home on Sunday, March 17, 2024. Ramona completed her education in Effingham County in Illinois and graduated from Effingham High School in 1956. She was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Effingham in 1954.
During her time as a Navy wife, Ramona lived in Virginia, Florida, Japan and California before returning to Illinois and then Indiana. Despite the many moves, she made each place a home and worked to keep it that way.
As the oldest of five children, she was introduced to hard work at a young age. She held a number of jobs in her lifetime and maintained a high work ethic throughout those years. Her last employment as a Senior Tax Preparer for H&R Block may have given her the most joy as she loved solving problems and helping people through theirs.
After her retirement from Yellow Freight in 1993, Ramona was able to devote more time to her church and worked tirelessly to help in planting a mission church, Harvest Lutheran, in Mooresville. Upon her return to Calvary, she used her financial skills to count weekly contributions and cashier at the yearly bazaar.
Retirement (semi-retirement) also gave her more time to devote to family – especially her beloved grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Ramona loved to travel and made many road trips over the years with her husband, Norman, and other family members. She was thrilled to accompany her daughter, Karen, and granddaughter, Teresa, to France and Spain. In 2010, a dream trip was realized when Ramona, Karen, Teresa and Ramona's sister, Carolyn, went to Germany. Coming from a long line of German farmers, this trip was very special.
Ramona is survived by her daughter, Karen Wright (Terry), grandchildren, Teresa Wright (Nick), Taylor Wright, Jacob Ramsey and Masyn Ramsey; step-grandchildren, Shelly Zeunik (Tom), and Matthew Starika (Michelle). She is also survived by her brother Fred Krueger (Rose) of Tower Hill, Illinois, sister Carolyn Johnson (Albert) of Pensacola, Florida and sister Gloria Smith of Clarksville, Tennessee and many nieces, nephews, and great-step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Margaret Krueger; her husband, Norman Cunningham; her daughter, Laurice Ramsey and younger brother, Roger Krueger.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Calvary Lutheran Church (6111 Shelby Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227). Donations may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church and School in lieu of flowers.
