He was predeceased by: his parents, Oliver Hunter and Barbara Gene Hunter (Jackson); and his former wife Marsha Kay Hunter (Featherston). He is survived by: his wife Naomi Ruth Hunter (Helton) of Mooresville; his daughters, Lisa Hunter of Martinsville, Jennifer McKinley (Randy) of Martinsville and Monica Shelton (Phil) of Lebanon; his stepdaughters, Ronda Utt of Mooresville and Theresa Elliott (Kevin) of Mooresville; his grandchildren, David, Emily, Miranda, Kaylan, Cory, Tyler and Casey; and his siblings, Gary Hunter (Hazel), James Hunter (Shirley) and Phyllis Featherston. He is also survived by 18 great grandchildren.
