He was predeceased by: his parents, Will Ison and Myrtle Ison (Hawkins); his daughter Shelia Ann Ison; and his siblings, Hazel Watts, Maxie Bedwell and Astor Ison.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Ison (Akemon); his children, Paul Ison (Lana) of Moores Hill, Eugene Ison (Susan) of Milan, Pam Cutter (Trace) of Moores Hill and Shirley Yeary (Charlie) of Moores Hill; and his siblings, Charlie Ison (Betina) of Elrod, Floyd Ison (Minnie Faye) of Moores Hill, Elma Caudill of Kingdom Come, Kentucky, Bonnie Banks of Kingdom Come, Kentucky and Lucy Cornett of Kingdom Come, Kentucky. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in honor of Irvin to the Faith Freewill Baptist Church.
