He was predeceased by: his parents, John Heron and Bessie Heron (Fritz); his wife Elizabeth J. Brickley; his stepson Michael Brickley; and his brother Ron Heron.

He is survived by: his children, John Heron (Trina) of Liberty Center, Jeff Reiff of Fort Wayne and Sherry Heron of Montpelier; his stepchildren, Dave Sharpe of Montpelier and Cindy Roth of Jay County; and his brother Bob Heron of Decatur. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
