He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbur McDonald and Crystal Bernice McDonald (Brown); and his sister Patsy Clark. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Vest; his children, Chris McDonald of Bedford, Patrick McDonald of Mitchell, Heather Mattingly (Glen) of Palmyra, Carmen Terry of Mitchell, Crystal Asbery (Justin) of Orleans and Sara Ward (Edwin) of Mitchell; his sister Milly Elliott (Jim) of Bedford; and his niece Elaine Elliott. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
