He was predeceased by: his parents, Brady Gildner and Laura Gildner (Phillips); his grandsons, Joshua Shafer and Brandon Krieger; and his siblings, Richard and Alliene Baker.

He is survived by: his spouse Marilyn Von Gruenigen; his children, Deanna Alvis (Jim) of Osceola and Greg Gildner (Marie) of Mishawaka; his stepchildren, Henry Shafer and Betty Sherman; his sister Sharon Wiseman (Glen) of South Bend; and his children, Michael, Kari, Brittney, R. J., Tim and Kyle.
