He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernard Bruns and Margaret Bruns; and his siblings, Bill, Jean Bruns and Janet Bonnlander.

He is survived by: his wife Alice Abner; his children, Lori Holt (Greg), Amy Williams (Tom Sheckels), Chris Bruns (Jodi), Stacie Miller (Kip), Joel Bruns (Carol), Neysa Herndon (Tom Ahaus), Tawnya Herndon-Holtegel (Eric) and Erin Herndon-Barth (Jason); and his sister Pat Bonnlander. He is also survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
