He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Sr. Brandes and Alma Brandes (Prager); and his siblings, Ralph Jr. and Juanita Taffe. He is survived by: his son Steven Richard Brandes of Milan; his wife Mary Lee; and his siblings, Gerry Doane of Milan, Rodney of Batesville and Ron of Milan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given in honor of Richard to Pierceville United Methodist Church.
