He was predeceased by: his father James Robert Thomas; his stepfather Harold Cooley; his father-in-law Clay McCandless; his brother-in-law Joseph McCandless; and his pets, Duke, Buttermilk, Cheyene, Dakota and Lily.

He is survived by: his mother Catherine Cooley (Wathen); his wife Mary Cae; his children, Chris Thomas (Jona) and Beth Wilson (Sam); his pet Tabi; his siblings, David Thomas (Melanie), Tony Thomas (Gerri), Phil Thomas and Anita Fischer (Jerry); his mother-in-law Bettie McCandless; and his brothers-in-law, Leo McCandless and Tom Lawson.
