He was predeceased by: his parents, John E. Benton, Sr. and Bessie W. Benton (Davis); and his sons, John Benton, III and Randy Benton. He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Benton (Jeffers); his son Rusty Benton (Angela); his grandchildren, Kian Benton and John Russell Benton; and his siblings, Gailene Rover, Mary Ellen Finchum, Brenda Stearsman, Jean Ghareeb, Pamela Wilbers, Stephanie Benton, Michael Benton, David Benton and Richard Benton.
