He was predeceased by: his parents, Clemence Keister and Ruth Keister (Campau); his former wife Kay Keister (Stafford); and his grandson Anthony Keister. He is survived by: his wife Bev; his children, Daniel Keister (Lisa) of Westport, David Keister (Julie) of Martinsville, Deborah Keister-Hubbard of Martinsville and Douglas Keister of Martinsville; his grandchildren, Derek Keister (Kristen) of Greenwood, Zach Keister of Martinsville, Annie Keister of Martinsville, Sam Hubbard of Martinsville and Max Hubbard of Martinsville; his great grandchildren, Chloe and Kaden Keister of Greenwood; and his children, Bob Brown (Connie) of Markle, Marty Corey (Sheila) of Bloomfield, Carson Kelley (Lisa) of Ossian and Jeff Mattix (Sherry) of Martinsville.

He helped Martinsville and Mooresville's Relay for Life raise funds for the American Cancer Society, the Martinsville Fourth of July fireworks and collected food for the local food bank.
