He was predeceased by: his parents, John M. Newman and Dorothy D. Newman (Moore); his brothers, Dennis "Denny", William "Bud" and Johnny Lee Newman; and his brother-in-law Mark Fletcher.
He is survived by: his daughter Angela C. Dodson (Scott); his grandsons, Mason of Martinsville and Brandon Dodson of Martinsville; his siblings, Luann Fletcher of Martinsville and James W. Newman (Kathy) of Indianapolis; and his uncle Mark Forler of Martinsville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
