He was predeceased by: his parents, Isaac Mendez and Alejandra Mendez (Guerrero); and his siblings, Mary Robles, Barbara Gomez, Maria Del Jesus Chavarria, Annie Tyler (Garcia), Tomasa Serna, Rita Vargas, Robert Mendez Sr., Manuel Mendez and Blas Mendez.
He is survived by: his children, Paul Jr. Mendez of Decatur, Indiana, Edward M. Mendez (Dianna), Eric J. Mendez (Margaret) of Decatur, Indiana, Karen D. Bowman (Marlin) of Decatur, Indiana, Eileen J. Mendez (Chabela) of Oakland, California, David J. Mendez of Lebanon, Indiana, Matthew N. Mendez of Decatur, Indiana and Patrick A. Mendez of Madison, Indiana; his sister Connie Moreno (Richard) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; his grandchildren, Alicia Mendez-McCarthy (Patrick), Zivan Mendez (Yadira), Gregory Mendez (Tiffany), Alexander Mendez, Peter Johnson, Mary Johnson, Sean Andrews, Emma Mendez and Samuel Mendez; and his great grandchildren, Ian Mendez, Alejandra Mendez and Lionis Favier.
