He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Florea and Flossie Mae Florea (Hinkle); his siblings, Joseph, Lee, Jim and Mary; and his sons, Richard "Gus" Howell and DeWayne D. Florea.

He is survived by: his wife Donna Florea (Nelson); his sister Madeline Blue; and his daughters, Bonnie Elam (Phil) and Leslie Roberts (Tony). He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to The Madina Clinic, in Madina, Sierra Leone, West Africa.
