He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Reed and Lillian Reed (Marshall); and his nephew Charlie Reed. He is survived by: his wife Debra Reed of Marion; his children, Melanie Beaver (Kevin), Michael Reed II and Gary Reed; his stepsons, John "J. R." Turney (Angela) and Anthony Turney (Heather); his grandchildren, Kennedy Reed, Sean Beaver, Ian Beaver, Joshua Turney, Jackson Turney, Candace Foy (Tanner), Jillian Turney, Reny Alcantara and Kayla Alcantara; his sister Sue Cruea (Dale); and his pet Coco. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held on Monday, April 7th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Marion National Cemetery (1700 E 38th St, Marion, IN 46953). A celebration of life was held on Monday, April 7th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the American Legion Post #10 (1700 S Pennsylvania St, Marion, IN 46953).
