He was predeceased by: his parents, Hobart Payne and Ruby Payne (Walters); and his sister Martha Meyer. He is survived by: his wife Bobbie; his friend Malcom Terry; his grandchild Zach; his great grandchild Dax; his children, Patricia Payne of Marion and Robert Payne of Indianapolis; his grandchildren, Aubrey Elizabeth Kay (Dustin McGuinn) of Marion and Zachary Allen Payne of Indianapolis; his great grandchildren, Decker Alan McGuinn and Drew Abigail McGuinn; and his sisters, Gladys Burns of Marion, Becky Lynch of Upland, Carolyn Haynes (Dave) of Elkhart and Marlene Mueller (George) of Greenwood.
