He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Broughton and Maggie Broughton Jenkins (Messer); his wife Vera Crecelius Broughton; his children, Brian Shane Broughton and Sue Stroud; his grandchildren, Terry Lynn Stroud, R. Travis Leek and Chelsey E. Broughton; and his siblings, Homer, Jesse, Herbert Broughton, Messer Jack Jenkins, Beatrice Krackenberger and Edith Heinz.
He is survived by: his children, Regina B. Leek, James Michael Broughton (Sheila), Sharon L. Huguley and Cynthia L. Fife (Douglas); and his siblings, Henry, Frank Broughton, Pat Ramsey and Mildred Milby. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
