He was predeceased by: his parents, William "Ralph" Burress and Dorothy "Dottie" Louise Scharf Burress; his brother Phillip Thornton "Phalbee" Burress; his brothers-in-law, Steven Wayne Ashby and Raymond V. "Sonny" Ashby; his parents-in-law, Raymond F. Ashby and Belva Victoria Robison Ashby; and his nephew Kris Douglas Robison Scott.
He is survived by: his children, Joshua "Josh" Burress (Sarah) of Madison, Indiana and Elizabeth "Beth" Seagrave (Robert) of Eugene, Oregon; the mother of his children Narci Marie Ashby Burress of Hanover, Indiana; his grandsons, Raymond Michael Burress and Graham Henry Burress; his siblings, Stephen William Burress of China, John David Burress of Olympia, Washington and Nancy Burress (Bob Tumiski) of Wallingford, Connecticut; and his sister-in-law Belva "Missy" Scott of Hanover, Indiana. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.
