He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Sparks (Abrams) and Herbert Sparks. He is survived by: his siblings, Teresa Empson (Allen) of Bloomfield and Jay Sparks (Robin) of Greencastle; his nieces and nephews, Sara Mumma (Logan) of Bloomington, Kara Empson (Zack) of Indianapolis, Tara Empson (Frank) of Knoxville, Tenn, Luke Sparks of Ankeny, IA., Jayson Sparks (Kamlyn) of Terre Haute and Tyson Sparks of Greencastle; his great-nephew Gabriel Mumma; his great-niece Quinn Ruddick; and his close friend Pam Fields.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made to the Greene County Chapel Cemetery or the Special Olympics in John's name.
