He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil "Doc" and Irene Hornby (Holder); and his siblings, David Hornby, Dale Hornby, Robert Holder, Janet Perry (Krieg) and Mildred Weigle.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Hargrave; his children, Brian Hornby (Susan) of Oakland City, IN, Kevin Hornby (Christina) of Petersburg, IN, Virgil Hornby (Angela) of Oakland City, IN, Angela Collins of Oakland City, IN and Gloria Phillips of Ferdinand, IN; and his siblings, Harold "Bub" Hornby (Pam) of Oakland City, IN and Doris Kempa (Richard) of Grandview, IN. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Matthew Church.
