He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Janine; his children, Kelly Fitzgerald (Ryan Ortega) of Chicago and Jonathon Fitzgerald (Regen Smith) of Crown Point; his mother Marie Quesada; his father-in-law Rich Schweitzer (late Jo); his siblings, Joe Fitzgerald (Liz), Missy Klaric (Rob), Kate Frank (Joe), Maureen Metzger and Lesa Watcher; his father John "Jack" Fitzgerald; and his sisters, Noreen and Linda.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in John's name to the Crown Point Community Foundation Honor Fund for First Responders.
