She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Leonard Koons and Patricia Besse Koons; her husband Charles Edwin "Ed" Smith; her son Kye Benn; her siblings, Judy Bowyer (Doug), Robert Koons, Margaret Ann "Mardi" Koske (Jeff), Betty Lane and Rebecca "Becky" Tidrick (John); and her stepdaughters, Vicky Hathaway of Logansport and Pam Welton of Logansport. She was also cherished by step grandchildren, step great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
