He was predeceased by: his parents, Dewey Mitchell and Dona Catherine Mitchell (Tackett); his spouse Carmel J. Caudill; and his siblings, Howard Mitchell, Lloyd Mitchell, Toy Mitchell, Maudine Caudill and Ettabell Gluba.

He is survived by: his son Danny Mitchell (Nila) of Ligonier; his grandsons, Chad Mitchell (Kim) of Ligonier and Bret Mitchell of Auburn, Indiana; and his great grandchild Chase Mitchell (Janae) of Kendallville.
