He was predeceased by: his parents, Thurman W. McAfee and Marguerite McAfee (Durham); and his siblings, Delma McAfee, Durham McAfee and Charleen Fulkerson.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Jean McAfee of Lebanon; his children, Diana Lynn McAfee Gerling of Hermitage, TN, James Raymond McAfee, Jr. (Dana) of Paducah, KY, Kimberly Dawn McAfee Wheeler (Tim) of Maryville, TN and Pamela Jean McAfee Lynch of Palm Harbor, FL; his sister Elizabeth Ann Tranter; his nephew Jeremy; his grandchildren, Jennifer Sorrow, Seth Walker, Danielle Driver (Ryan), Caleb Robinson (Agata), Taylor Robinson (Chelsea), Jimmy McAfee, III (Tina), Alex Robinson, Erin Lane (Garrett), Morgan Lynch, Joseph, Isaiah, Anthony, Tristan, Timmie and Bella Wheeler; and his great grandchildren, Kendall, Cole, Abrahm James Sorrow, Benjamin Driver, Maia Robinson, Audrey Robinson, Baylor Driver, Sebastian Robinson, Quincy McAfee, Charley Robinson and Isla Jean Lane.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Lebanon Church of Christ, 1204 Indianapolis Ave., Lebanon, IN 46052.

“I worked for Dr. Jim when I was in High School. He was always kind and humble. Knowing I was interested in nursing he had me assist with many patients. I will never forget how good he was with patients, showing them empathy. We never had to worry about getting out of the office early on Friday evenings for basketball games, he would stand at the door as I finished to get to the games on time. And yes I became a nurse and have been for 43 years. For his family, so sorry for your loss.”
