He was predeceased by: his parents, George Heitman and Eva Heitman (Plunkett); his wife Carman Anna Heitman; and his siblings, George "Pete" Heitman and Sharon Douglas.

He is survived by: his stepdaughter Razvana Lungoci (Gabriel); his granddaughter Leandra Lungoci; his nephew Michael Douglas (Julie); his great-nephew Andrew Douglas; and his great-niece Morgan Douglas.
