He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Barnes and Katherine Barnes (Anderson); his wife Anne L. Barnes (Marzke); his brother Alvin Barnes; and his daughter Carolyn Watson.

He is survived by: his son James Barnes (Marla) of St. Cloud, FL; and his grandchildren, Tim Watson of Sturgis, MI, Roxanne Culver (David) of Baltimore, MD, Carrie Phillips (Josh) of Reidsville, NC and Cody Barnes of Columbia, SC..
