He was predeceased by: his parents, Virginia Shields and Jones; his wife Barbara Cotter (Bienas); his sister Marilyn Lofberg (Gene); his granddaughter Brooke Cotter; and his son-in-law Randall Shail.
He is survived by: his children, Gregory E Cotter (Debbie) of La Porte, IN, Linda Cotter of Taneyville, MO and Becky Hamilton (John) of Granger, IN; his grandchildren, Brittney Satoski (John), Brodie Cotter (Kelley), Shelby Killingsworth (Maurice), Sonjia Capon (Dusty), Sydnee Cotter, Colton Shail, Connor Hamilton and Christina Hamilton; and his close friend Duane Burger. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
