He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Harrison Rigel and Florence Rigel (Whitson); and his siblings, Robert Rigel, Raymond Rigel, Margaret Bryant and Harold Rigel.
He is survived by: his wife Vonda Lightbody; his children, John William Rigel Jr., Jana Lynn Peterson and JoDee Rigel; his sister Phyllis McClain; his grandchildren, Michelle McCune, Amy Rodas, Jennifer De La Cruz, Matthew Noonan and Brad Rigel; and his great grandchildren, Tinsley McCune, Mikaylyn McCune, Eliana Rodas, Adelina Rodas, Micah Rodas, Trey Rigel, Baby, Greyson De La Cruz, Easton De La Cruz, Ella Noonan and Brady Noonan.
In addition to flowers, contributions may be made in John's memory to the Galveston First Baptist Church.
