He is survived by: his son Shane Patterson (Catherine); his stepchildren, Jason White (Christine) and Andrea White; his grandchildren, Alyssa Williams (JR), Adam Patterson (Hannah), Marie White and Brandon White; and his sister Denise Elzinga (Mike). He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
