He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred E. Herbst and Juanita Herbst (Young); his siblings, Jerry Herbst, Jack Herbst and Sharolyn Geren; and his brothers-in-law, Larry Peterson and Roger Geren.

He is survived by: his spouse Beverly Ann LeMaster; his sons, Brian Herbst (Dana) of Peoria, IL and Scott Herbst (Nancy) of Mishawaka; his grandsons, Christian and Lucas Herbst; and his siblings, Jim Herbst (Tina) of Kingsford Heights and Janet Peterson of Kingsford Heights.
