He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Peterson and Christine Peterson (Solie); his grandson Brian Carlson Jr.; and his siblings, Clarice Peterson, Walter Peterson, Orvis Peterson, James Peterson, Helen Lemna, Alice Peterson and Merlin Peterson.
He is survived by: his children, Dawn Carlson of Donovan, IL, Shannon and Marvin Peterson Jr. of Kentland; his siblings, Olga, Jean, Ronald and Sharon; and his grandchildren, Erritt, Misty, Christy, Brock, Erika, Ashlynne, Trevor (Jacy) and Tyler. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
