He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence V. Burch, and Alberta Burch, Sr.; and his son Mark Burch. He is survived by: his wife Mary W. Burch (Shepherd); his sons, Kevin Shepherd (Marsha) of Jasper and Brian Shepherd (Laura); his grandchildren, Kirk Shepherd (Lydia), Craig Shepherd and Lydia Shepherd; his great grandchildren, Eleanor and Kate Shepherd; and his siblings, James "Jim" Burch (Joann), Gerald "Jerry" Burch and Wanda Burch.

Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Hospital Foundation-Jasper, Indiana, St. Jude's or to a local favorite charity.
