He was predeceased by: his parents, John B. Mercer and Marjorie M. Mercer (Martin); his brothers, Melvin Lee Mercer and William Mercer (Donna); and his brother-in-law Ed Brunes.

He is survived by: his son John D. Mercer (Debbie) of Jamestown; his granddaughter Elizabeth Mercer of Greenfield; and his brother-in-law John Brunes (Karen) of Lizton. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Advance Community Christian Church.
