He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Via, Sr. and Clara Via (Mangin); and his siblings, Wilton Via, Fred Via, James Via, Mary Via Loftus and Alice Via Benjamin.
He is survived by: his friend John Krier; his sister Susan Via Nalley; his nephews, Mike Kriech (Carrie), Jeff Nalley (Genni), Ryan Nalley and Matthew Nalley (Doris Bachtrog); and his niece Kristie Nalley (Kathleen Crossland). He is also survived by dog watcher duties for his friends and family members.
