He was predeceased by: his parents, Coy Brown and Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Brown (Simpson); his wife Sue Brown (Myers); his daughter Sherrell Brown; and his brother JC Brown.

He is survived by: his daughter Julie Shaffer; his grandchildren, Joe Shaffer (Kristi), Kelli Shaffer, Braedyn and Brooklyn Shaffer; and his sisters-in-law, Karen Myers and Carolyn Myers. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
