He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter A. and Marjorie Simons (Newman); his wife Vera L. Simons (Cramer); his son James Christopher Simons; his granddaughter Heather Louise Simons; his brother John Simons; his sister-in-law Helen (Cramer); and his husband Frank Nelson.

He is survived by: his children, Scott Simons (Deb), Idaville, Martha Simons, Baltimore, Susan Simons, Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Landis and Monticello; his grandchildren, Erin Morgenthal (Jeff), Schaumburg, Lindsey, Ruth, West Lafayette, Seth Simons, Idaville Landis, Larissa Landis and Culver; and his great grandchildren, Brodie, Zoe, Cameron, Collin, Emma and Alec.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the White County Food Pantry.
