He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Eugene and Claudine Shaffer (Bauer). He is survived by: his wife Vickie Lynn Smith; his daughter Karisa Shaffer (Trenton Scott) of Huntington, IN; his brother Daniel Shaffer (Jacqualyn) of Huntington, IN; and his grandchildren, Kaydence, Kailynn, KaliAnn, Kendall and Layla.
