She was predeceased by: her parents, Clarence Cates and Mamie Lou Cates Blackburn (Townsend); her husband Donald Warren Deffendol; her son-in-law Jack Turner; and her siblings, Cessil Cates, Terry Blackburn and Barbara Thomas.
She is survived by: her daughters, Donna Duncan (Gary) of Huntingburg and Suzanne Turner of Bloomington; her grandchildren, Angela Tanner (Shawn "Chunk"), Lisa Nicholson (Jason), Scott Duncan, Laura Penn (John) and Carrie Brown (Mark); and her great grandchildren, Tyler Sibrel (Chelsea), Casey Sibrel, Brett Houchins, Jade Klaiber (Ben), Jordan Houchins (Alex), Gavin Duncan, Zander Duncan, Jax Nicholson, Ilie Nicholson, Elizabeth Hill (Jackson), Evelyn, Emma, Esther, Elliot Penn, Katelyn and Luke Brown. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
