He was predeceased by: his parents, Milton Coates and Alfreda Coates (Kossow); his son Brian Coates; and his brothers, Dennis, Kenny, Norman, Larry and Ronald.
He is survived by: his wife Linda Coates (Nickell); his daughter Amanda Richmond (Ken) of Wanatah; his grandchildren, Joshua, Elizabeth and Megyn; and his siblings, Richard Coates (Patti) of Portage, Darryl Coates (Leann) of Florida, Karen Hill (Doug) of Tennessee and Arlene Koritko (Andy) of Hobart. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
