He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Hegerfeld and Anna Hegerfeld (Hockemeyer); his wife Helene Hegerfeld (Werling); his siblings, Luella Lepper (Oscar), Marcile Baatz (Alfred), Dorothy Werling (Gerhart) and Arnold "Peanut" Hegerfeld; and his brother-in-law Harvey Caston.
He is survived by: his children, Brenda Scherer (Bruce) of Hoagland, Indiana, Stanley R. Hegerfeld (Nan) of Hoagland, Indiana, David E. Hegerfeld of Decatur, Indiana and Brent A. Hegerfeld (Shari) of Hoagland, Indiana; his sister Bernice Caston (Hegerfeld) of Ossian; his grandchildren, Casey Scherer (Shana), Kari Schultz (Zeke), Amy Gutshall (Cole), Ashley Rumple (Bryan), Abby Hegerfeld, Cody Hegerfeld (Serena) and Weston Hegerfeld; and his great grandchildren, Gavin Scherer, Cooper Scherer, Clarke Schultz, Reggie Schultz, Alana Gutshall, Carston Gutshall, Candon Gutshall, Kane Rumple, Aven Rumple, Paxton Hegerfeld and Hayden Hegerfeld.
Preferred memorials are to St. Peter Lutheran Church – Fuelling; Worship Anew; Hoagland Area Advancement Association (HAAA); or St. John Lutheran Church – Flatrock Endowment Fund.
