He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward S. Zimmer and Dorothy Zimmer; and his former wife Judy Zimmer. He is survived by: his wife Terri Zimmer (Pullins); his children, Kirk Zimmer, Jackie Garner (Jim), Holly Howell, Amanda Weaver and Travis McCormack (Tina); his grandchildren, Dakota Zimmer, Kent Garner (Brandi) of John, Cody Binkley (Cheyenne), Kaleb Ludington (Amanda), Aidan Weaver and Logan Weaver; his great grandchildren, Luke Schuitema, Dawson Garner, David, Sophia, Lexi Binkley and Tyler Rice; and his siblings, Bruce "Buz" Zimmer (Deon), Terry Zimmer (Susan), Randy Zimmer, Jim Zimmer (Sheri) and Sue Zimmer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
