He was predeceased by: his son Daniel J. Garlinger; his grandson Merrick J. D. Garlinger; and his sister Karen Criswell. He is survived by: his mother Sharon Joyce Garlinger (Fry) of Hartford City; his children, Christopher P. Garlinger (Kaili) of Noblesville, David L. Garlinger (Samantha) of New Paris, IN and Shelby R. McNeany (Andrew) of West Lafayette; and his sisters, Sharyll Martin (Fred) of Texas and Carol Yates (Brian) of Hartford City. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
