He is survived by: his parents, Letitia Oney Lee of Madison, Indiana and Michael Walter Starkey of Columbus, Indiana; his sister Tonya Starkey of Madison, Indiana; and his stepsiblings, Steve Poindexter of Columbus, Indiana and Shelley Moore of Bloomington, Indiana. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's charity of choice.

“Michael was a good employee, and he will be dearly missed by his coworkers. I worked with Michael for around 2 years at Grote, as his team lead, and later as his supervisor. He was a good man with a wonderfully eclectic taste in music. Every day, he would come in and was always determined to get better numbers than everyone else each and every day. He normally succeeded. I wish we had more time. Rest in peace, Starkey. From James at Grote.”
