He was predeceased by: his significant other Shirley Wartsbaugh; his parents, Paul Porter and Margaret Porter (Baran); his former wife Carolyn Greathouse; and his close friend Sharon Johnsen Porter.

He is survived by: his children, Mike Porter (Monika), Carrie Upton McKneely (Toney), Debbie Ridgeway (Herb), Paul Porter, Lisa Porter (John Lewis), Maria Parrish (Jimmy) and Marvin Sean Porter (Deborah); his grandchildren, Seth Upton (Brittany), Trevor Upton (Carolyn), Trey Upton (Sarah Bell), Nela Jiindrichova, Preston Porter, Conner Porter and Brooke Porter; his great grandchildren, James, William, Michael, Evelyn, Henry and Max; and his former wife Marianne Ellsberry.

Donations can be made to City of Hammond Fire Department Station Number 6 or Lakeshore PAWS (lakeshorepaws.org) in Valparaiso, Indiana.
