He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Hand and Elizabeth Hand; his son James "Jim" Peter Hand; and his siblings, Owen Hand (May), William Hand (Moya), Peter Hand (Alice), James Hand (Margaret), David Hand (Lorraine), Mary Malone (Gary), Nancy Pease (Michael) and Rose Ruden (Hugo).

He is survived by: his wife Lee Ann; his children, Celia Hand, William "Billy" Hand, George Owen Hand, John Paul Hand (Donna) and Helen Buckley (Martin); and his sister Vera Higgins (late Peter). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
