He is survived by: his son Jim Mathis (Jackie) of California; his grandchildren, Daniel Mathis of California and Emily Golding of Massachusetts; and his brother Frank "Butch" Abel (Barb) of Hamlet. He is also survived by several nieces and one nephew.
