He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Merrick and Ruth Merrick (Richardson); and his brothers, Clifford Merrick, Dale Merrick and Larry Merrick.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Neeb; his children, Samuel J. Merrick Jr. of Morristown and Jennifer Merrick-White (K. C.) of Morristown; his grandsons, Braiton and Waylon; his siblings, Richard Merrick of Morristown, Paul Merrick of Shelbyville, Dorothy Mentzer of Shelbyville, Bonita Dixon of Shelbyville, Linda McDaniel of Shelbyville and Susie Bolden of Indianapolis; and his pet Teddy. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
