He was predeceased by: his parents, Melville Broyles and Julia "Louise" Broyles (Johnson); and his brother Ronald Broyles. He is survived by: his wife Kathryn Broyles (Glotzbach); his children, James E. "Bo" Broyles (Charity), Michelle Broyles Freeland (Robert), Robyn Chambers (Joel), Brandi Owens (Chuck) and Angie Jackson; and his nephews, Timothy Broyles (Suzzi) and David E. Broyles (Regina). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
