He was predeceased by: his parents, Johannes VanderWerf and Iebeltje VanderWerf (Bouwman); his stepmother Martha VanderWerf (Dam); his former wife Elsa VanderWerf (Riwe); his son-in-law James C. Barber; and his stepson A. Chris Stump.
He is survived by: his wife Evelyn; his children, John Nathan VanderWerf (Cindy) of Elkhart, Eileen VanderMolen of Elkhart, James VanderWerf (Tammy) of Elkhart, Myron VanderWerf (Wanda) of Goshen, Sandy Barber of Goshen and Sarah VanderWerf (Salvadore LeBold) of Goshen; his stepchildren, Cindy VanderWerf (John Nathan) of Elkhart, Courtney Stump (Christena) of Goshen and Curtis Stump of South Bend; and his siblings, Izzy Miller (Don) of Elkhart, Hennie Janzen (Mark) of Kansas, Margriet Troyer (Robert) of Kansas, Chris Graber (Terry) of Kansas and Julie Gingerich (John) of Iowa. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
